Last week Year 11 GCSE Drama students went to see Jitney at the Old Vic Theatre Schools Theatre Project as a parting gift  to congratulate GCSE Drama students on completing their GCSE Drama and to introduce them to A level Drama and Theatre Studies at SASS next year.

The Year 11 GCSE Drama students displayed exemplary professionalism and theatre etiquette as we watch August Wilson’s Jitney. A play set in an unlicensed cab office in Pittsburgh Hill District where regular taxi cabs won’t travel.

It was an extraordinary piece of theatre. Fast paced and energetic performances transported the  GCSE Year 11 students to 1977 Pittsburgh USA, healing old wounds and tearing new ones.

The students said;

Samira “It was a very moving and powerful piece. I just love how the theatre teaches us about life.”

Raya said “I love the Old Vic Schools project – I have learnt so much this year and I hope to get  involved with more Old Vic projects over the summer.”

Yusuf said “Thank you to Ms Hall and Ms Krisaloff for everything you have done for us and thank you everyone for helping gain so many amazing memories. I hope to see everyone who is going to our sixth form next year.”

It was another wonderful trip from the Performing Arts Department.
