As a secondary school subject, Drama focuses on the Four Cs of Drama – Collaboration, Communication, Control and Cooperation – with a focus on storytelling, as this is what Drama is all about. Students develop the skills of communication and discover their personal voice in order to understand their own stories and the world around them. We then build upon these fundamental life skills to explore the different styles and genres of storytelling and theatre from around the world, moving onto the meaning and intention of storytelling within Drama. It’s message; how we can challenge the audience and create powerful theatre. At Stepney All Saints, our focus in Drama is to discover, connect, empathise and create a lasting supportive and creative community.
Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9)
Year 7:
The Art of Storytelling; The Actor and Body Non – Verbal Storytelling , Scripted Stories; Monsters – a script writing project; Stage To Page – Ernie Incredible Hallucinations – how we infer stories; The Outsiders.
Year 8:
World Theatre – exploring genre and style; Verbatim theatre; Protest theatre – exploring spoken word and language; Sparkleshark – theory exploring scripts; Sparkleshark – Page to Stage; Applying genre and style to Devising; Macbeth – abstract storytelling.
Year 9:
Using our Actors tool kit to create powerful drama; Theatre Practitioners – how they impact an audience; Junk – playwright‘s intention; Junk – monologue and duologues; Devising – student-lead creation of drama piece inspired by social media using theatre practitioners to create stories with meaning.
Key Stage 4 (Year 10-11)
Year 10:
Introduction to GCSE drama, Component 3: The Crucible: practical and written work on directors, drama styles, production techniques, Component 3: Evaluation of Live theatre, Component 2: Performance from a text, Component 1: Devising for performance: exam at the end of Year 10
Year 11:
Component 3: The Crucible: practical and written work, Component 2: Performance from a text to an examiner various texts: Component 3: Revision of The Crucible and evaluation of live theatre for written paper in June
