Trip to The Gambia 2026

Stepney All Saints Students Explore Global Citizenship in The Gambia

In February 2026, a group of students from Stepney All Saints School had the incredible opportunity to take part in an international visit to The Gambia as part of our  global programme.

The trip formed part of our commitment to developing students’ understanding of the wider world, giving them opportunities to engage with different cultures, perspectives and histories. Based in Kololi, students experienced a rich and varied programme designed to bring learning to life beyond the classroom.

During the visit, students were able to visit our partner school, building connections and sharing experiences. This included time spent in lessons, collaborative and informal opportunities to learn about each other’s daily lives and education systems.

A key focus of the programme was cultural understanding. Students took part in hands-on experiences such as preparing and sharing traditional Gambian food, learning about local crafts, and visiting vibrant community spaces including markets and coastal areas. These experiences gave students a real insight into everyday life in The Gambia.

The group also explored the natural environment, with visits to areas such as Bijilo Forest and Makasutu Forest, where students took part in guided walks and observed local wildlife. Encounters with nature, including visits to the crocodile pool and opportunities to see local birdlife, helped students to appreciate the biodiversity of the region and the importance of environmental sustainability.

Throughout the visit, our students represented the school exceptionally well. Their curiosity, respect and willingness to engage fully in every aspect of the programme were a credit to both themselves and the school community.

This visit is part of our wider commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of background, have access to high-quality enrichment opportunities. By removing financial barriers and prioritising inclusion, we are proud to offer experiences that inspire ambition and open doors for our young people.

We look forward to building on this partnership in the future and continuing to provide opportunities that help our students to become confident, informed and globally aware citizens.
